Akadama has been used for bonsai over many centuries in Japan and is a type of hard-baked Japanese clay. Benefits of Akadama include a ph neutral environment along with a balance of moisture retention and drainage. Such properties make it ideal as a bonsai soil component or a top dressing material.
We have changed to providing Golden Line Akadama which is harder and lasts longer than Double Red Line.
Supplied in 1 Litre bags, our Akadama is available in three graded grain sizes:
- Small, graded for grain size of 3mm
- Medium, graded for grain size of 5mm
- Large, graded for grain size of 7mm
Our soils are now provided in biodegradable bags with a recycled paper label. Beechfield Bonsai aims to minimise our environmental impact throughout all areas of our business. For information on bonsai soil substrates and indicative mixes for your trees, take a look at our bonsai soil substrates article.
